After meeting at the Polish border, the family drove to Paris in the hope doing the application there would be speedier than in Poland where thousands of refugees had amassed.
Ms King said the Home Office had not been supportive, which she described as "upsetting", and said the family had repeatedly been told to check online or call the visa centre, which, she said, was proving "impossible".
She told the BBC: "Things could be done easier, especially for a British citizen who has relatives - things could be done easier, not 10 days of waiting."
Ms King remains with her parents in Paris, saying she could not leave them as her 76-year-old father had some disabilities and could hardly walk.
"But we are watching the news every day and feeling they are in a safer place which makes them feel better because some people are sitting in shelters under rockets," she said. |

Middlesbrough mayor says banning ballet over Russian name wrong

"My understanding is that this is an international cast of performers who, for artistic reasons, use the name of Russia in their stage name.
"We need to keep hold of reality here."
Middlesbrough Theatre's website has since referred to the show as the "National Ballet". November's performance of The Nutcracker, performed by the same company, is also due to go ahead as planned. |

Swift payments crackdown on Russia edges closer  Moves to shut Russia out of the main global bank payments system have gained ground after Germany's government softened its stance.

So far, sanctions have included freezing the assets of Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, as well as halting Russia's Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
Swift is used by more than 11,000 banks and financial institutions worldwide to carry out transactions worth trillions of dollars.
Excluding Russia from Swift would not stop its banks sending and receiving cross-border payments, but it would make the process much more difficult and expensive. |

Nigerian authorities destroy cannabis farmsNigeria's National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed about 2.5 sq km (1 sq m) of cannabis farms in Ondo state in the south-west of the country.

Record number of LGBT characters on US TV, study says

The report examined broadcast TV, which is free, cable TV, which is paid for and streaming platforms - mentioning popular shows such as Sex Education, Euphoria and Killing Eve for positive representation.
The breakdown
Out of 775 series-regular characters on broadcast TV, 11.9% are LGBT, making up 92 characters, with an additional 49 in recurring roles.
Lesbian characters, such as Batwoman on CW, represented the majority of LGBT characters on broadcast and cable.
Gay men on screen saw a decrease by 5% on broadcast and 3% on cable compared to last year.
Bisexual representation such as Loki in Disney+'s Marvel series Loki, made up 29% of all the LGBT characters on broadcast, cable and streaming - an increase of 1%.
More streaming
The streaming services analysed this year expanded from Amazon, Netflix and Hulu to include Apple TV+, Disney+, HBO Max, Paramount+ and Peacock as well.
On these platforms, there were 358 LGBT regular and recurring characters, with representation of LGBT people from ethnic minorities increasing to 49%.
Streaming services also surpassed broadcast and cable networks in portraying transgender characters, with 26 trans characters, "triple the number of characters appearing on either broadcast or cable", in streaming shows, according to the report.
In total, there were 42 regular and recurring transgender characters tracked across all three platforms - up from 29 last year. |
